Calving season feeds and fire safety in farm operations
Farm notes urge cow calving management and lactation feeding with about 30 pounds of hay daily to support milk and rebreeding. Fire loss on farms averages fourteen million dollars yearly, stressing building spacing, fire resistant cladding, and code considerations. Safe tractor practices include staying away from ditches, limiting riders, and proper hitching and PTO safeguards. Seed disease risks prompt use of certified seed or seed treatments for smut and bunt susceptible crops, with cost estimates 5 to 20 cents per bushel.
