Infertility Backlog Tied to Cow Calf Management
Dr John Agar of Manitoba Agriculture warns most infertility in cow calf herds stems from mismanagement rather than disease. Focus on energy rich feed with proper timing known as flushing, adequate phosphorus, and a correct bull to cow ratio. He notes 280 day gestation leaves 85 to 90 days to secure another calf, and stresses energy, minerals, and bull fertility as key factors for a successful six week breeding season. The piece also reports 4-H club membership gains in Canada and Manitoba for 1972, with goals of leadership development and citizenry.
