Cropping practices curb root rot in prairie cereals

R J Ledingham of the CDA Research Station notes common root rot hits wheat and barley hardest with an annual 5 to 12 percent yield loss. Spores persist for about three years, and rotation with non host crops like flax or rape or summer fallow reduces disease. Deeper seeding worsens the issue, while a shallow 1.5 to 2 inch depth aids crop vigor.
