The council will meet today at 10am to hear complaints registered against assessments. It is hoped to raise funds to pay debts and start winter work. Citizens have supported the rink admirably this season.
The United Church U P S holds its regular meeting Wednesday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. T Long with attendees asked to meet at the church at 7 45 PM. Wm Hvans shows slight hospital improvement. his brother James of Saskatoon visits. The group hopes for Evans to recover enough to go home soon.
After a week of bitter cold and heavy snow, Thursday brought near springlike conditions. Roads remain dangerous for sleighs and wheels, but gas buggies should be back in operation soon as travel improves.
The fifth meeting at Mrs Wythe's home drew eight members and a visitor. Leaders instructed on shoe bags velvet mitts patches and button sewing. A vote of thanks honored the teachers for guidance. A dainty lunch followed the meeting.
The town and district held a Saturday bonspiel with afternoon games delayed to night due to soft weather. Grace Powell skip won the Hollywood Frances Berwicks rink event, while the Berwick rink took the Grand Challenge. Prizes included silk lingerie and boxes of homemade candy.
The Minio Horse Club held a whist drive and dance Friday night despite poor roads. Twenty five tables played. prizes went to Mrs Ben Woods and Miss Ruth Gibbon and Sr Stredley and Lloyd Taylor. Music by Jack Cook followed. after expenses the club showed a $12.90 balance.
The Extension department sponsors an Achievement Day this month as districts complete dressmaking instruction. Leaders learned much from Mrs Ames who visited recently, and the public awaits the final performances by the groups.
Friday event by the Community Rink Committee invites residents to a whist drive and dance. Organizers promise a lively evening with music and socializing for members of the local community.
A Teadelta Hockey Tournament will take place on Saturday March 5 with play starting at 1 PM. Admission is 35 cents and 200 spectators are expected.
The W A or Holy Trinity church holds a sale of home cooking and aprons at A J Lelondse Hotel on Saturday March 26 from 8 to 6. Tea served with fruit cake draw for each plate.
In our Lurable opinion a farmer shows January milk production from his cows. His best cow produced 762 lbs of milk, sold at 8 a quart for a $2432 return. Butter fat 30.5 lbs yielded $427 as No 1 table cream. Opposing view notes skimmed milk for calves and high calf prices, highlighting disheartening returns for hard work with a good herd.
A local Mixed Bonspiel begins Monday March 14 with participants to submit names to Alex Spalding by Friday March 1. A meeting will be held in the Municipal Hall Friday March 11 at 7 36 PM to draw rinks and finalize arrangements for the spiel.
Mrs. John Wythe Phore advertises government banded bronze turkeys for sale with price available on request and contact at 193 Minieta.
For sale purebred Angus cattle from a fully accredited herd. Includes bulls and females aged 10 to 20 months. Prices moderate with usual terms extended to farmers. Contact Job Wythe at 19-3 in Miniota.
Isabella notes that M. J. Bridge traveled to Winnipeg Tuesday morning with a carload of stock. The W. I. convenes Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. R. Warren.
The soft weather last week halted the Decker bonspiel but play has resumed this week as conditions improved. Teams are back on the ice with matches likely to proceed on schedule.
Mr and Mrs Russell Reid were summoned to Spy Hill last week as Mrs Reid's father lies seriously ill.
A group of district youths joined Elmer Finkbeiner Friday evening to celebrate his eighteenth birthday with cards and drawing games. A dainty lunch was served by the party's ladies.
