Three hundred sixty people gathered in Brandon College dining room for the 67th annual meeting of the Children’s Aid Society. The event highlighted a $345,338.43 treasurer’s report, services to 2,696 children plus 250 mothers and children, 56 adoptions, and 282 foster homes in Southwestern Manitoba. Peter Luba was elected Board President. other officers named include E M Simpson, S A Dickens, and Norman Baillie. Directors from the district include Jack Coombs, J Finkheimer, G H Thompson, and Mrs Alex McKean.

Teachers Attend Meeting at Russell Manitoba Society Regional Session
Teachers from Newdale Shoal Lake Strathelair Miniota and Russell met June 1 in Russell for a Manitoba Teachers Society regional discussion chaired by Arnold Minish. They formed a three member poll committee to gauge views on transferring elementary education to division boards and discussed Bill 39, tax rebates, curricula, pensions, salaries, and educational assistance funds.

Mid June 1869 Red River road project probes turmoil
In mid June 1869 a government relief road 30 miles east of Fort Garry faced bush fires and labor strife as workers and Canadians clashed over pay. Charles Mair sent foremen to protect bridges while John A Snow oversaw mail duties. The project employed about 40 men for 29 1/2 miles of work before stopping December 18 1869. Snow supplied meals to 63 Canadian prisoners at Fort Garry and Mair faced public whip.

Pasture Spraying Assistance Offers Eligible Farmers
Farmers may receive up to 80 dollars for initial pasture treatment with 1 dollar per acre paid by the province for half the treated acres. For a second year retreatment the province pays 50 cents per acre for half the retreat acres. Contact Ivan Fleming in Hamiota. Mrs W Long and Mrs Barner served as delegates to the W I Provincial Convention in Winnipeg. Gwen Walker of Red Deer visited the Walkers. Congratulations to Mr and Mrs John Suszko on the birth of Christine May 30 at the Women's Pavilion Winnipeg. The Municipal Council bought a Fargo fire truck for Crandall district. A E Irvine spent days in hospital after his foot was caught in a power lawn mower injuring two toes. Leis Johnston Pat Amy Edith Ariss competed in the Zone Track and Field Meet in Virden with Lois Johnston 1st in Ball Throw 200 feet and 2nd in shot put. Junior Pat Amy 1st in Shot Put and Ball Throw. Senior Edith Ariss 1st in Discuss. All three qualified for the Provincial Track and Field Meet in Winnipeg June 5. Lois Johnston and Pat Amy received MSS A A Pins for 1st place. Loss 1st in Ball Throw Pat 1st in Shot Put and Ball Throw Edith Ariss received a pin for 2nd in Discuss.

Mrs. Dibblee spoke about Africa life and letters from her daughter Mrs Randell teaching in Africa. Wood carvings and African scenes shown, plus a Candy Sale and White Elephant Sale raising over $23. Lunch served. U C W business followed with letters calling for Capital Punishment abolition signatures. The month’s project was Talent money with varied ideas. Mizpah Benedict Mr and Mrs Tennant and Mrs Woods visited Mr and Mrs Baker and Bill at Minnedosa last Sunday.
