4-H selects youth for South Dakota Experience Trip

Four youth from the Hamiota Shoal Lake area, including Barbara Lynn and Jeff Dyck, are chosen to represent the Manitoba Agricultural Representative area on an Experience Trip to South Dakota in July. Leaders J W Leland and Norval Brooks named as representatives, with 25,411 members from the region set for exchanges in Vermilion and Minot.

Canada bans three rapeseed varieties amid erucic acid debate

Agriculture Canada says Echo Arlo and Polar rapeseed varieties with 28 to 35 percent erucic acid are dropped from the approved list and will not be sold. Low erucic acid crops dominate Canadian production with 30 percent under one percent and 64 percent at one to two percent. High erucic acid seed will be grown only under contract in segregated zones to prevent cross pollination.

Farm Surfactants and Herbicide Label Compliance

Farm surfactants are not pesticides and do not require EPA registration. When used with herbicides they must follow label directions. improvised mixtures may not improve performance and could violate label terms. Surfactants do not enhance pre emergent or preplant herbicide performance, and manufacturers are not liable for off label applications.

Surfactants Boost AAtrex Postemergence Performance

Notes on herbicide use explain that adding a surfactant like crop oil improves contact action of AAtrex on emerged weeds but raises crop injury risk. Nebraska tests show non petroleum surfactants underperform crop oil. Follow manufacturer directions. other herbicides with built in surfactants may not benefit and can increase injury.

Local visitors share memories and birthday greetings

Mr and Mrs Brian Penny and family of Rossburn visited Mrs L Wisner last week. Wisner left Sunday for Elmira Ontario to visit daughter and attend a great granddaughter's wedding on June 21. Arthur Gunson of Vancouver called on uncle John Gunson. Thursday evening social followed service at Park Residence with the Lynas Jameson Senior Choir and 40 guests. Coffee tea cake and ice cream served. Mrs S Stewart celebrated her birthday at Glen Stewart farm on May 28.
