Salk vaccine reaches half of Manitoba's young adults

Hon. George Johnson reports about 50 percent of Manitoba's 18 to 40 year olds have taken full advantage of free anti polio vaccine. He urges doctors to vaccinate promptly, noting polio typically rises in summer and that 1959 saw two cases, while 1958 had 149 cases with 104 paralyzed. About 419000 cc of vaccine, including booster shots for schoolchildren, have been administered this year. Three doses are required for immunization.
