Low erucic rapeseed markets seen with Canada supply pledge
A joint industry government report to Japan and Europe indicates strong markets for low erucic acid rapeseed varieties provided Canada can guarantee a continuous supply. Canada aims to phase out regular rapeseed by 1972, producing 98.5 million bushels in 71 with 90 percent regular varieties. LEAR isolation and contamination risks are stressed, with Zephyr and Span seed available for 1972 planting, and seed grower lists at the Agricultural Office. Feeding and livestock notes cover poor hay, supplement needs for pregnant cows, protein sources, and mineral mixes, plus regional pest expectations for Manitoba in 1972.
