Sgt. Geo Colby on furlough at Ridge. Lindley Hodnett visits family. Mrs. Kirton and Rosina visit Jelville. Miniota W. I. to meet at Mrs. Chamers’ home. Talks on wheat markets and barley, 1945 assessments, by laws on municipal officers tax deeds, pensions approved, and tax settlements. Council eyes land leases, graveled roads, and arrears enforcement with upcoming meeting.
The Miniota Red Cross branch will meet at Municipal hall at 8 p m Thursday to present annual reports and elect officers for the year. The notice urges attendance as the organization is considered representative of the community.
The rural council met on a Tuesday in Minnesota with Reeve J. R. Lynch presiding. New officers J. F. Hawes and R. L. Stevenson appointed. J. J. Morton named Councillor Ward 6. 1945 committees formed including Bridges and Telephones. legal adviser named. assessor and weed inspector appointed. Child Welfare Board member added. tax penalties set for late payments. telephone disconnections authorized for high rentals. school districts to receive one third of arrears.
The Municipal School Board met in Miniota appointing R. Chalmers chair for 1945 and W. Wallace trustee for Ward 5. E L Reynolds and others were sworn in as trustees. A 1945 budget of 42 479 and 82.60 daily routing costs on 26 van routes were approved. Delegates to the Manitoba School Trustees Convention were named. The old school building was granted to the Miniota Women's Institute for a recreational centre.
