Radio Keeps Dominant Spotlight in Canada’s Entertainment Scene
Radio remains popular despite forecasts it would harm theatre and sports. Stars on air boost film interest, sports broadcasts lift attendance, and many listen to concerts and symphonies. Canada’s radio licenses grew from 9,954 in 1928 to about 2.25 million in 1951, suggesting near-universal reach. Radio offers dance bands to church services and, with television, any entertainment. It is Canada’s leading entertainment source.
