Hamiota Opens Twenty Extra Senior Citizen Units

The Hamiota and District Senior Citizen's Park Residence Ltd celebrates the official opening of twenty new housing units, increasing total capacity to thirty. Local officials including Mayor Lorne Caldwell and Reeve Lorne Montgomery attend with MLA Morris McGregor and Minister Doug Watt among speakers. About 200 people, with coffee and lunch served by the Hamiota Ladies Hospital Aid, attend the ceremony at Fraternal Hall and the site.

Manitoba Agricultural Credit Board Named in Winnipeg

Manitoba Agriculture Minister J. Douglas Watt announced the appointment of the chairman and directors of the new Manitoba Agricultural Credit and Development Corporation. H. J. Anderson will chair, with George Franklin Arthur V. Rampton Harold L. McKay and Lorne W. Leggat as board members. The act provides loan guarantees via established lenders and will administer loans from the former Manitoba Agriculture Credit Corporation. Details of the program are pending.

Watt Urges Livestock Focus at Manitoba Farm Outlook

Manitoba's sixth annual Farm Outlook Conference in Brandon heard the 1969 livestock sector remains strong despite a poor 1968 harvest. Minister Watt urged shifting some emphasis from special crops to livestock, citing favorable 1969 crop prospects and steady livestock values, with total Manitoba farm production around 475 million in 1968 and livestock valued at 164 million.

New Hunting Licence Regulations In Force This Year

Manitobans must present last year’s licence or complete the province’s hunter safety course to obtain any 1969 hunting licence. Anyone under 19 must take the course even with a prior licence. Courses are offered by Game and Fish associations 4-H cadet groups and others. contact the Department of Mines and Natural Resources or conservation officers for schedules.

Breath Testing Rules Set to Take Effect March First

Manitoba police may require drivers to submit to breath tests starting March first under new provincial law passed in 1968. Tests confirm impairment for charges and may serve as corroborating court evidence. If drivers refuse, the registrar of motor vehicles may suspend the operator’s licence after filing a report.
