District Hospital Aid Meet HAMIOTA meeting notes

Hospital District No. 7A Ladies Aid met in the Community Room on Friday January 24 with seven districts represented. Treasurer reported ledger balance of 805.57 and year ending 1968 receipts 1836.68 expenses 1533.92. Jams and jellies vegetables and cash donations for the hospital pantry valued at 275.85. Cardiac Monitor arrived January 16 costing 4060.50 to aid quicker diagnosis. Open House for the new Senior Citizens home tentatively set for February 8 with Ladies Aid serving tea.

Bursaries Awarded by University of Saskatchewan

Ten bursaries of 250 dollars each, funded by Interprovincial Pipe Line Company, were awarded by the University of Saskatchewan’s joint Committee on Scholarships and Awards. Recipients include Glen B. Baker Watrous third year pharmacy, Layne M. Bixby Warner Alberta third year veterinary medicine, Alice M. Cyrenne Ponteix second year arts and science, Edward A. Grimm Simpson second year engineering, Janice A. English Hamiota Manitoba third year arts and science, Margaret K. Mitchell Preeceville second year arts and science, Myron A. Sereda West Bend second year engineering, Linda D. Smith South Allan second year arts and science, Marion A. Woryn Meath Park third year arts and science, Naomi Wright Broadview fourth year home economics. Miss Mitchell attends the Regina Campus. others are at Saskatoon.

February and March see peak cattle lice. Apply Totenone 1% or Malathion 4% dust twice ten days apart. a third dusting may be needed for heavy infestations. Snow Fence Hazard Warns Snowmobile Operators

Manitoba transport minister warns power toboggan operators about snow fencing along roads. Shared fences with taut wires between sections may be invisible to riders and have caused fatal injuries in the U S. Wires will be marked with cloth next year. this year operators must use extra caution when passing through fence gaps.

Manitoba Vehicle Registrations Renewals Rise Provincewide

About 100000 renewals received in Metro Winnipeg with 420000 renewal forms mailed provincewide for 1969. New validation strips on rear plates from March 1. Renewals may be by mail or at agencies across Manitoba. total registrations expected near 435000. Black strips with yellow characters for 1969.

Miniota WI annual meeting reports 1969 activities

The Miniota Women's Institute held a 1969 meeting at Mrs. Wes Leland's home with Mr. G. Long appointed auditor. Reports outlined community activities including fundraisers, hospital donations, cancer and blind canvas drives, and service at district events. Officers elected: President Mrs A Armitage, 1st Vice Mrs C Armitage, 2nd Vice Mrs Dales, Secretary Mrs Peel, Treasurer Mrs Blaich.

West Man Regional Directors Conference at Fort Garry Winnipeg

About 80 directors from five Manitoba Regional Development Corporations gathered at the Fort Garry Hotel in Winnipeg on January 9. Tom Kent, deputy minister of the new federal department of regional development, spoke. The meeting featured provincial ministers and resource leaders outlining regional policy topics as directors and staff from Pembina Valley West Man Central Plains Parkland East Man and northern boards shared ideas.
