Perry Wallace and Beverley Rudd presided as Crown Queen Hyedman was named Miss Beverley Rudd Queen of the Carnival. The event sponsored by Cran dall Student Council featured attendants princesses and train bearers with award prizes for costumes races and duets performed by Gail Batley Jessie Willi ame and others.

Curlers Rally With Bonspiel Wins At Virden And Birtle
Three rinks from Miniota took part in the Virden bonspiel with the Hodnett rink finishing second in the Central hotel event. The teams were delayed by road closures and housed with farm families until Sunday. In Birtle the Ladies bonspiel saw Mrs Les Horner’s rink win the Challenge event with Tote bags and the Grand Aggregate, while Mrs W Mospop’s rink won the Third event with a brush and comb set. Arrow River hosted four rinks of children curling on Saturday night.

Obituary for Mrs. J. O Chalmers of Portage la Prairie
Laura Kathleen Lynch born April 24 1916 Arrow River moved through Minnesota Ottawa and Miniota before marrying James Oliver Chalmers October 11 1947 in Miniota. She lived in Brandon and Portage la Prairie later and died January 27 in Winnipeg General Hospital after a long illness. Funeral held Monday at United Church led by Rev H Bowman with large attendance and floral tributes. Survived by husband James Oliver Chalmers Portage la Prairie her parents J N Lynch and a sister Mrs A Spalding Miniota.
