Manitoba Farm Incentive Program Boosts Grassland Sowing
Farmers may earn 10.00 per acre for converting cultivated land to perennial forages under a Manitoba Grassland Incentive Program. The previous 25 acre minimum was removed this year, expanding eligibility with a December 31 deadline. Applicants with acreage sown to grass since 1970 showing increases in perennial forage acres should obtain an application from the Ag Rep Office or local elevator agent. The program aims to provide rural employment, assist family farms in livestock projects, and support Agriculture Department programs, with Agriculture Society Buildings eligible under certain conditions. Priority goes to Farm Diversification participants and livestock improvement projects, while Society building projects have lower priority. The provincial government allocates 1,000,000 to fund local projects, with up to 1,000 free labour per farmer. Applications are available at RM offices and Ag Rep offices, and committees of five to seven locals will select projects. The Brandon Extension Centre venue was filled to capacity for Estate Planning Tax Legislation and Personal consultations may be arranged through the Ag Rep Office.
