Women Gather for Presbytery Stewardship Events
In Birtle and Oak River during the first week of November more than a hundred women attended Presbytery sessions led by Mrs. Anne Pettapiece of Rivers. The program covered Stewardship of Time, Talents, Treasure and Trash with input from local delegates and a panel including Rev. Norman Vernes. Guest speakers Rev. Les Jay and Gail Jay spoke at Bin-scarth. Rev. Gaston Vialard spoke at Oak River. Morning and afternoon singing was led by Mrs. Jack Widdicombe, with a book sale totaling $143.18 managed by Mrs. H. Cook.

Manitoba livestock shine at Toronto Royal Winter Fair
Six Manitoba communities dominate the event with champions and prizes. Keith Bridge of Hamida held the heavyweight Shorthorn title with top placings for reserve and second and third. Neil Wilson and son of Lenore earned heavyweight Shorthorn honors. Brown Brothers of Kenton captured reserve senior and grand championships for Percheron mares. Other first prize Manitoba winners include Brown Brothers two horse team of Percheron mares, E Arnold of Shoal Lake with Clydesdale entries, Lucky Pine Farms of Kenton with lightweight Aberdeen Angus, and Ron Sangster of Kenton with lightweight Shorthorn. The province shipped 254 cattle, horses and swine to the Royal, its largest in years and first truck shipment instead of rail, with eighty-two other placings by Manitoba livestock.

Mail Through Fairbanks AP: Woman Gets 1949 Medical Bill
In Fairbanks Alaska an unnamed woman a Dr Arthur Schaible bill for 13 dollars arrived decades late. Jean Heuvel recalled being told the bill was paid in 1949 when she received a subsequent notice. Postmaster Otis Dean delivered the overdue envelope stamped August 2 1949. The envelope was found behind equipment at the post office.

Visitors came to the home of Mrs G Morris including Dec Cormick Dennie from Killarney and Bettie Cormick of Brandon. Ray Wood of Winnipeg called on Saturday. Mrs S Stewart is a patient at the hospital and is wished a speedy recovery. Mrs W Campbell joined her daughter in law Mrs Gordon Campbell on a Winnipeg trip and visits with family.
