An optimist is described as a cross-eyed man who is glad he is not bow legged. Mrs Gee, Rowan of Brandon visits Mr and Mrs Gilbert Rowan for a few days.
Russell Lynch moved into the Mrs E E Evans residence in town while Mr and Mrs A and Miss Irene Dorward visited Winnipeg last week. Albright family took over the J H Plewes house. Labor Day Monday Sept 5th is a public holiday with stores to close. A Beattie family returned to Cleveland Ohio after three weeks visiting in the district.
Mr and Mrs Ralph Falconer of Winnipeg and Bert Williams and von, Oliver, of Duck Mountain, met in Winnipeg to visit Mr and Mrs R Falconer.
Robert Falconer has shown marked improvement after a difficult period, now able to move more freely and speak. Earlier, his health deteriorated over the weekend causing concern, but recent reports indicate steady recovery and improved condition.
The speaker notes the district's beautiful gardens and strong interest in horticulture. They ask if a municipal flower show society could be formed to organize an annual event.
Officials warn merchants of a $2500 penalty for issuing cheques over $1000 without a two cent revenue stamp. The notice urges clerks to stamp many cheques, noting the cumulative cost makes the issue notable for business.
The Municipal school trustees met in Miniota on Friday. Resolutions include adopting the Financial and Auditors reports and publishing them in the Miniota Herald with 100 copies. The Teachers committee reports vacancies filled and H L Albright engaged as Supervisor and Attendance Officer. The board will not rent part of Mutual building at Beulah. They plan an Annual Social at Isabella on September 2 at 7 pm and appoint Iverach Finkbeiner and Chalmers to organize. The meeting will adjourn to Miniota on chairman’s call.
A Highland Gathering and Festival will be held at Banff from September 3 for three days with Scots of notable artistry leading performances at Banff Springs Hotel. Seventeen Highland Regiments will send representatives to compete for a trophy funded by E. W. Beatty of the Canadian Pacific Railway. The program includes Scottish songs dances and bagpipes with Toll of the Highland Regiments praised for keeping the music alive.
Birth announcements note a daughter born to Mr and Mrs F McCheyne in Miniota on Sunday August 21 and a daughter born to Mr and Mrs Hi Atkinson in Vancouver on Wednesday August 24.
