Farewell for Mr and Mrs Frank Stevenson at Community Centre

Children’s Aid Society Annual Camp Brings 68 Local Youths
The Summer Camp by the Children’s Aid Society of Western Manitoba ran ten days at the Baptist Church Camp site by Clear Lake. Sixty eight boys and girls from Oak River to Brandon participated in swimming, hiking, crafts, and camp fires with days at Clear Lake and Lake Audy. Leaders from Brandon and other towns oversaw activities supported by local clubs and citizens funding the event.

Infection in teeth tonsils or sinus can threaten sight so eye examination by a medical eye doctor is advised during regular checkups. Teeth should also be examined yearly by a dentist to allow necessary repairs and prevent eye disease.
Honorary Indian Chief Crowned at 1961 Pow Wow
Milton C Holden, president of The Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Co, was named Tatanka Mani at the Oak River Sioux Pow Wow in Griswold Manitoba. Jim McKay, the oldest Chief, crowned him with eagle feather regalia and led initiation dances as dancers from youth to old age filled the arena with color and ceremony. The new chief urged better understanding between Indians and whites and encouraged educational opportunities.
