Seed Plant Mortgage Goes Up In Smoke
About 340 people attended a July 27 dinner at the Oo-Za-We-Kwun Centre to witness the mortgage burning of Rivers Manitoba’s seed cleaning plant. Speakers included Reg Forbes and Dr. Jack Nesbitt. The plant, begun in 1957 and opened October 6 1958, had cost about 50 000 dollars with a 20 000 dollar provincial loan. It has since expanded, now handling large volumes and cleaning more than 3.5 million bushels of seed over 16 years.
