Manitoba Farm Notes and weed control costs debate
The issue traces weed control economics for Manitoba farmers. Dr Elmer Stobbe notes 10 to 15 percent cereal yield losses from weeds, with potential net losses of about 18.60 per acre for wheat and 42.90 per acre for flax at 1973 prices. He stresses that fertilizer and water plus best weed control are needed to raise yields and recommends the 1973 Guide to Chemical Weed Control. The article covers April 19 Miniota meeting and notes deadlines for Crop Insurance changes, plus other community notes and school district motions.
