Lee wheat still vulnerable to stem rust warns Manitoba agriculture
The soils and crops branch of Manitoba Agriculture cautions against overconfidence in Lee wheat’s rust resistance. Lee remains highly susceptible to stem rust, with yields 30 to 50 percent below Selkirk when rust hits early. Officials urge using Lee only if Selkirk is unavailable, especially with late seeding and potential rust pressure. Percy Ford warns farmers not to delay seed purchases to avoid losses.
