Local and general news note that Gilchrist has purchased the Wm. Taylor residence in town. A heavy snowfall Wednesday morning delayed planned cleanups, but residents expect to have time to tidy up soon.
The CPR reports extensive trackage around Vancouver including Pier BC Granville Street yards and the False Creek and Coquitlam terminals. North shore to Narrows Bridge exceeds 9 miles with 27 more miles to Coal Harbour, plus three to four miles at the South False Creek Yard. Coquitlam serves Vancouver and New Westminster with 22 miles of tracks and double capacity as needed. New additions address growing westbound grain traffic after record shipments in 1927 78. The CPR notes grain shipments began in 1922 rising to 50 million bushels in 1923 24 and 53 million by late February, reflecting port throughput growth.
Dominion forest service officials announce Save the forest Week in Manitoba during April 22 to 28. A public campaign will use pamphlets motion pictures and lectures to tell the story of Canada's forest wealth and fires hazards. Schools will allot time for forestry study and give pupils a brief code of forestry dos and don'ts.
Wapple Murdock writes in the Hartney Star about the end of life and the hope of an existence beyond time. He recalls youth's haste for worldly joys and, as shadows lengthen, ponders whether science can explain mind and fate after death.
A health bulletin explains that diseases like diphtheria scarlet fever measles whooping cough pneumonia tuberculosis typhoid smallpox and chickenpox are spread directly from sick to well by disease germs. Germs are microscopic and die quickly outside the body sunlight helps to kill them. The main transmission methods include coughs sneezes kissing contaminated objects and shared utensils.
