Farm Notes by Wendell Wight Ag. Rep.
Farmers with unusual income in 1967 may lower taxable income by using a five year average or applying business losses from prior years. If 1967 net income is low, adjust depreciation or capital cost allowance for buildings and machinery. First time filers should use straight line depreciation. trade-in gains on farm machinery are not taxed. Obtain forms at post offices and compute net income on a cash basis. Net income minus $600 informs CPP contributions. See Farmer’s and Fisherman’s Guide or Prairie Provinces Farm Account Book for details.
