Springville Lawn Social Supports Prohibition Aims

A lawn social by Springville Council R T No 447 at M Lowe Cavan drew a large crowd. J F Stratton chaired after refreshments as Rev Mr Cook urged temperance. The Trent Narrows will gain a new iron bridge replacing the unsafe wooden structure. Weddell's Bridge Works of Trenton won the contract for 1300 dollars. The 300 foot bridge with a 112 foot draw will rest on stone abutments and construction starts immediately.

Shootout in Campbellford as man fires at daughter

A Campbellford resident Abraham Wilson fired three times at his 21 year old daughter during a quarrel ending with the father shooting at her as she fled. The daughter and two sisters sought refuge with neighbors. Wilson fled and may resign arrest. Family remain under care while authorities decide punishment. Two Canadian Geological Survey members depart Quebec for a two year Labrador expedition to map lakes and rivers and interior Labrador.

Swindle at Chicago Fair Nets 300 From Fireworks Viewers

At the Chicago fair last night a con artist charged 15 cents for a boat excursion to view fireworks. About 4,000 people were stranded when no boat appeared and the gates were locked, forcing additional 50 cent charges to exit. No suspect identified.
