J Sibley, a 32 year old English native and husband with four children, died after inhaling sulphuric gas in the pulp department of the Toronto Paper Co. mills. He and a coworker, J Morin, stayed in the room after digesters emptied. gas settled and Sibley was overcome while Morin escaped to a window. He died at General Hospital.
A New York despatch reports five thousand Chinese bodies disinterred from burial grounds across the United States shipped to China aboard the steamer Shimosa from Brooklyn. Each corpse is placed in sealed caskets labeled with the occupant’s name and history and stored between decks for the voyage.
Harvey Hazel, seventeen, found guilty of killing his mother in Toledo on January 11, 1908, by hammer beating and theft of 57 dollars. He was sentenced Wednesday to life imprisonment at the Ohio State Penitentiary in Columbus, amid attention to claims of adolescent insanity.

The body of James Semple of Fredericton was recovered from Lake Spednik near Vanceboro after a blizzard last Saturday. Semple and his four horse team struggled for life, three horses found dead earlier, with Semple believed to have fallen into water and frozen to death.
The remains were found on the American side of the lake about five miles from Vanceboro with the death noted as occurring on Sunday. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the unidentified body.

Despatch from London reports police statistics for 1908 show a sharp rise in drunkenness arrests to 1,158 and a total of 2,852 arrests. 315 were before the court for disorderly conduct, an increase from prior figures.
