Two Pine Falls MenReceive Bravery AwardsOn Sunday September 13, 1953 a party from the 46th Field Squadron, R.C.E., held a water maneuver on Lake Winnipeg, during which the Assault Boat was overturned and swamped in the heavy weather. For more than four hours the party remained in the water before reaching a small island, and it was some tune after that before the survivors were rescued. For their bravery in keeping up morale, and for their gallant and untiring efforts to keep afloat, two members of the party Lieutenant J. D. Salloum and Sergeant S. P. Berthelette, of Pine Falls, both of the 46th Squadron RCE, were awarded.The Queen’s Commendation for Brave Conduct:At a colorful ceremony Satur-dav. L. Morton and the affiliated Pine Falls High School Cadet Corps under Lieutenant J. D. Salloum were drawn up in Review Formation in the Arena, and the Fife and Drum band from the .6th Field Squadron. RCE., Winnipeg, under the direction of Sergeant-Major Kane, was present to provide suitable music for the occasion.At 8:30 p.m . Major-General N. E Rodger. C.B.E., C.D.. General Officer Commanding Prairie Command, nccomoanied by his Aide-dc-camp Major A. W. Brnine of the Gth Field Squadron R.C.E.. entered the Arena. He received the General Salute and then carried out an inspection of the 46th Field Squadron, the Cadet Corps and the band.Following the inspection. Lieutenant Salloum and Sergeant Berthelette were called forward in turn to receive thrir re-socctive awards from Major-General Rogers, whc read the accompanying citations over the oublic address system for the benefit of the attending troops and citizens.Major-General Roger then took the salute during a march past, after which he requested the troops to stand easy. He then commended the 1 local squadron and the Cadet corps on the work they had done, and he held great hopes for future growth and further improvements. He particularly stressed the valuable experience to be gained by Cadets who could attend the summer camps held each year at Clear t.aki- and Dundurn.A 15-page plumbing bylaw was passed at the Nov. 8 meeting of the Village of Lac du Bonnet Council. The bylaw covered, licenses and technical information as to the type of construction necessary foi plumbing systems in houses and businesses.A plumbine permit is reouired for new buildings, existing buildings not already provided with a plumbing system, and buildings to which alterations or additions are made to any plumbing system. A clause in’the bylaw states that any person (including the contractor) found guilty of a breech of the bylaw is liable to a fine not exceeding SiC.OO The plumbing permit is valid for six months.The bylaw included that no person shall engage in plumbing work unless they have a master plumber’s license, ($15.00 first vear. renewal S5.00) issued by the Village of Lac du Bonnet. Nov. 8 in the Club rooms with twenty-four members present. Mrs. M. Hig-nell was chairman and Mrs. N. Carruthers recording secretary. Plans were completed for the Fun Fair to be held on Nov. 19 at 8 p.m. in the Community Hall.A Christmas Party will be held on Dec. 13 in the Community Hall. All members are cordially invited.
