TAET.Belongs To The Hose.Co./E Ordered to Jackson By the Adjutant General.iThe honor of being called upon by .Adjutant General Fridge to act as special military escort lo President Taft, during his stay in Jackson, belongs to Company E of Laurel. The adjutant general sent his order by long distance Thursday night.Sunday night Capt. E. F. Bartlett responded and started for Jackson to report with a roster of fifty-six of his men and Second Lieutenant L. L. Slade next in command. The force reporting from Co. E not being of sufficient strength, to these were added 22 from Vicksburg, 18 from Yazoo City and 15 from Jackson.Provision having been made for a private armory while in Jackson, the Laurel soldiers were soon m marching trim and first reported for duty to meet President Taft’s train on its arrival at the depot.•Here, a double-line of men was thrown out, and when Mr. Taft stepped from the train he passed through this double line to the elevator of the Edward’s House. Then the lino was formed from the elevator to tee sidewalk curb and through this the President passed to his carriage.This duty done, double-quick time was made to/the gate of the Fair Grounds, whence a.line was formed to the Agricultural Hall entrance. Mr. Taft having entered the building another quick-time movement was made for thedoor where the President was to make his exit and from here Mr. Taft passed, through to the speakers’ stand. During the speech-making the soldier boys stood guard keeping the crowd back until Mr. Taft entered his carriage to lead the procession composed of distinguished dignitaries around the rz— course. Co.
