Wounded on OkinawaWord was received May 11 by Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Overly, of East Earl, R. 1, that their 19-year-old son, Pfc, John G. Overly, USMCR sustained a gunshot wound of the thigh in action against the enemy on Okinawa Island, Ryukyu, on April 18* He entered the service November 24, 1943, and trained at Parris Island, S. C., and New River, S. C., §nd went overseas in March, 1944. He has seen service on Saipan and Tinninn with the 29th Marines.His two brothers in the service are: Pfc. Chester B. Overly, with the 34th “Red Bull” Division in Italy, and Harvey H. Overly, S2C, stationed at Newport, R. I. Before entering the service, he worked on his father’s farm.
