Gen. Macon, D. C. Native, Heads 83d DivisionBrig. Gen. Robert C. Macon, a native of Washington, has been appointed commanding general of the 83d Infantry Division, it was announced today at Camp Breck-inrldge, Ky.Gen. Macon*? comm anded a regimental land-ing group during the Invasion of Africa in November, 1942, under Lt. Gen.George S. Patton. He received the Silver Star last January for gallantry In action during the invasion. g*«. Mmm.A graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute. Geft. Macon was commissioned in the infantry in 1916 at Washington. He Is a graduate of several Army schools, including the Army War College. He has had extensive overseas duty, having commanded an infantry company in China and served as general stall officer with troops in Panama before his latest overseas assignment.
