Kennedy - — —There is one new member of Congress who boasts that his father, who was formerly in Congress, was not only in the war with Spain, but was a companion in arms with him during the World War. That is Representative Robert B. Chip-perfield, Republican, of Illinois, who was bcrn in 1899 while his father was fighting in the Spanish-American War. The elder Chipperfieid—Burnett Mitchell— was connected with the Illinois National Guard for 20 years. He organized a regiment for service in the Spanish-American War. He was a member of the State House of Representatives, secretary and trustee of the Western Illinois State Normal School, a member of | the State House of Representatives. After service in the Sixty-fourth Congress he was an unsuccessful candidate for the United States Senate. During the World War he was judge advocate of his division in France and was judge advocate of the Army of Occupation in Germany. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Citation certificate ,,for exceptionally meritorious and conspicuous services as division judge advocate” and was also cited for gallantry in action. Later he was lieutenant colonel in the judge advocate general's department of the Officers’ Reserve Corps.
