FOREST QUI8E WRITK8.f®~ iThe, following interesting letter was recently received by Mr. and -iMrs. William Guise from tbeir grandson, Forest, who is stationed 11 at Camp Lee, Va. s',. . Camp Lee, Va.e Dec. 4th, 1918.i Hello Grandma; •v How are you all getting? I am a I just fine and pretty well satisfied.I’ve been in this camp about a 81 week now. We left Camp Merritt e I Wednesday night about four g'-clock and had a pretty ^good feed at midnight. We walked five and one-half miles to the Alpine landing nnd rode on the ferry d I down to the New York piers. We is then boarded the ‘President 1.1 Grant” about three o’clock. This t- is one of the freight boats captured ie from the Germans and had the ill same name before. It is not a very speedy boat for- wo left New York about five o’clock and reached our destination in Virginia at the mouth of the James river about ten o’clock Friday night. There ii* I we were transferred to the “Gov-Hernor Dingly” and sailed down )v the James river to Hopewell, Va. is Wo got off there and walked about *r ten miles to Camp Lee and arrived 3- hero about ten o’clock Saturday w | night. We slept two nights in our tents and were pretty much id crowded without any eating con- veniences. We came to the bar-rl I racks Monday morning. We had id I another company eat with ours until the next day, so our “eats”I were not very good. In fact we had not eaten or slept very well in since leaving Camp Merritt.Tuesday we ate by ourselves, and 0 things have been running smoother m ever since.io Many of our company were sca-‘d sick during the trip and a lot fell lo out after the last “hike,” but we »£j still have a good sized company.I don’t know when we will be mustered out but it won’t bo a great while. They are mustering out the Development men now and the casuals come next for they are 9* I of least value to the army. ,At 16 least, though, don’t look for me ir* until you see me. Then you will have plenty of time to get a good chicken dinner. n‘ ‘ I hope to find you all well when I get there.Yours, fromFOREST.rciBotblt;been811 th crplMarmsi'tcfothwatsetiwatVIecPimt!Thiinal.vtecl.slt;\Tnlt;.V1o:Cn:uvtlt;htlaal:ididRETURN TO DENVERdudnst
