Two hundred soldiers of the 87th Pa. are now living In tin* various Stat«*s of the Union. This regiment was organheed in September. 1S6J, on tlift public common of York, with George Hay as Colonel, lie was succeeded by Col John W. Schall. now* a retired Major-General of tho Pennsylvania National Guard.The Inst action of the Pennsylvania Legislature appropriated $5,000 for the purpose of erecting the Monocacy Monument. It Is about 35 feet high, and h.« blt;*en erected at a central point on the battlefield.Capt. \V. FI. Lanins, of York. Pa.. pr«*sided at tho unvnlling ceremonies. He formally turned the monument over to the State of Pennsylvania. Capt. Robert T. Cornwell, of West Chester, delivered the oration.
