Mrs. H. M. Phillips, 1918 Avenue N. received word the past week from Gen. Claire Chennault that there were little hopes for her son, Lt. Luther W. Tate'a safe return. Lt. Tate had been missing in action since May 20. At the time of his disappearance he was bombardier aboard a plane on an important mission over enemy territory. Lt, Tate graduated from Lubbock High school in 1938. He enlisted in the Air Corps July 10, 1941 and received his wings and commission at Victorville, Calif., Aug. 21, 1943.
