A wedding of wide interest In this section is that of Miss Gertrude Margaretta (Jerry) Peppard, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marcus R. Peppard of New York City, to Lieutenant Joseph Hunt Bourland, son of William M. Bourland and the late Mrs. Bourland of Clarendon.The colorful American naval wedding took place in the Church of Christ the King in Shanghai, China, recently. Full naval uniform was worn by the bridegroom, bestman,ushers, and brother officers who formed the guard of honor and crossed swords as the couple left the church.The bride wore her mother’s wedding gown of ivory parchment satin, made on princess lines with a yoke of beautiful old lace. The sleeves were long and full and the gown was cut with high waistine and short circular train. Hpr long tulle veil was trimmed with old lace which formed a coronet. She carried a shower bouquet of roses andvalley lilies.Mrs. Peppard was her daughter’sonly attendant.Followng the ceremony, a reception was held in the Cathay Mansions I/ninge. The wedding cake| was cut with the sword presented to Lieutenant Bourland by the Regiment of Midshipmen when he was Regimental Commander at Annapolis, the highest rank that can be conferred on a midshipman.Bourland was graduated with honors from the Naval Academy in 1933 and from the Submarine School at New London, Conn., in 1935. Heis attached to the submarine division of U. S. S. Canopus, and has been on duty in China waters for thepast year.The bride was graduated from the College of Mount Saint Vincente, | Riverdale, N. Y., and received her M. A. degree from Columbia University in 1936.
