Lurid European intrigues and British civic notices
A long letter from Warsaw reports Russia and Austria pressuring Poland over the Pope’s Nuncio, while Dutch, Swedish, and Danish moves hint at wider power plays. Royal and court affairs include Cumberland’s entertainment for Gloucester, with praise for the Russian Empire’s splendor. Local London notices cover elections for Lord Mayor, Guildhall commerce, and a host of marriages and births. A flood in Inverary devastates infrastructure, and multiple church appointments, rewards, and civic roles are listed among society items.
