Letter on naval widows fund abuses sparks public outcry
A circulated appeal from Ned Nauticus at St James's Chronicle charges Admiralty officials with mismanaging widows’ and orphans’ funds. The letter estimates up to 1018 widows and calls for immediate payment of £49,858 7s 4d plus missing overages. It condemns stoppages, salaries, and lack of accountability, urging Parliament to audit and redress alleged theft of charitable funds.
