Plague reports and crime notes across Europe and London
From the era's dispatches: plague reports reach Alexandria and lines near Warsaw. Copenhagen reports a revolution with royal flight. A Liverpool fire kills a vessel crewman and a customs officer. London sees burglaries, forged notes, and a ship demurrage case at Newcastle. Marriages and notices follow, with theatrical news and a quarterly magazine ad.
Old Buthiede relates to East India merchants and ships
In Aug 1772 at Deal and in Downs and Gravesend lists of ships bound to and from Jamaica Antigua Portugal and other ports appear with arrivals and sailings. The document also notes a Berlin or Deal quarantine, a ship left on the Goodwins, and a sale of shoe blacking cake by Bayley and others. It includes a long excerpt from a East India Company inquiry about Surajah Dowla and Calcutta, detailing Kiffindals landing, Nabob demands, and protective relations with the English factory.
