He cites past reigns, warns against factionalism and improper court influence, and urges ministers chosen for merit to preserve national dignity and trust with Europe.
A printer is urged to publish a warning about a monied trader who discounts bills at high rates. The piece exposes his use of a legal daily interest, disguising usurious terms as fair dealing, and recounts a memorandum showing inflated prices and deceptive discounts. It notes arrests and a debtor kept in jail to deter others from similar practices.
General Post Office notice from August 19 1776 offers a two hundred pound reward plus royal pardon for apprehension and conviction of the highwayman who attacked the Chester Mail near Finchley Common. Describes the suspect as a thin man about six feet tall, in a dark brown coat, mounted on a light bay gelding about fifteen hands. Also invites information leading to capture of accomplices.
