From Hague dated September 1 last letters report a growing coolness between Russia's Empress and Prussia's King. The Prussian monarch forbade his Petersburgh minister to accompany the Empress to Moscow. Causes remain unclear with theories about territories beyond the Netze and regional disputes with the Dantzickers.
London by the King a proclamation prorogues Parliament from September 14 to October 26 next. The royal order directs the Chancellor to prepare a commission for proroguing and calls Lords Spiritual and Temporal Knights Citizens Burgesses and Shires and Burghs Commissioners to attend Westminster on October 26. God save the King.
Yesterday in London a drawing room at St James's brought together the King, Queen, and a prominent line of nobles and ministers including the Lord Chancellor, Lords North and Howe, and Generals Haldimand and Pitt. A council at Rochford’s office discussed proposals to end colonial disputes, with reference to Parliament. Letters from America warn of Congress’s rise and civil unrest, while loyalists push for a London Association to defend press liberty and crown dignity. Contemporaneous notes cover military promotions, enclosures schemes, coronation manuscripts, port news, and local incidents.
A large ship from Jamaica to Dublin, named the West-Loo and captained by Darling, was lost in its passage. all crew perished. A Mullingar letter reports on Sunday a military party en route to Cork broke the gaol and released a soldier under death sentence for rape and robbery.
The letter laments Algiers’ naval dominance and warns that Christian states profit from neutral stances while Barbary states are allowed power. It recalls Spain’s fleet against Algiers and questions whether France Britain and Holland will unite to curb the Barbary states, then shifts to Britain’s civil war with its colonies and European politics, noting Sweden Denmark and Ottoman intrigues and referencing Aly Bey and Cheik Daher.
