During the 1745 uprising Moody, a mariner aboard a privateer at Liverpool, refused to join the Pretender led by Lord Isciw. His ship sailed without him while his comrades enlisted. Though spared transient doom, he later learned they were hanged on Kennington Common and that his ship had been lost at sea with four on board.
