Werribee Opens Electric Light Scheme In 1915
Werribee marks the official opening of its electric light system with a two mile lighting radius and 50 lamps. The project cost £4960, funded by loans of £4000 and £1000, repayable by 1944. Revenue from lighting and pumping the town water is expected to cover costs and produce a profit. Officials praised the scheme as a sign of rapid local progress and anticipated extensions to nearby farms and facilities.

Debating Society Opposes Legalising the Totalisator
At a meeting the debate centered on legalising the totalisator for betting. Proponents argued it would concentrate betting at racecourses and fund charities, while opponents warned it would legalise vice, harm temperance, and burden administration. After discussion, the chair ruled against adoption by majority.
