Death of Mr Christopher Crisp Bacchus Marsh editor and public voice
Christopher Crisp long-time editor and proprietor of the Bacchus Marsh Express died at 3 pm on December 25 after a three-year struggle with cerebral hemorrhage. Born in Islington England on May 20, 184? he moved to Australia with his family in 1858, rising as a printer and journalist. He steered the Express through decades of correspondence with Federal leaders, scholars, and officials, championing local development, federation, and constitutional ideas. He received tributes from magistrates, professors, and politicians, and was honored for his role in rail and public works. He leaves a wife Grace and five children and was fondly remembered as a prolific and principled advocate for Bacchus Marsh and broader reform.
