On August 23 1917 votes were tallied for the East Riding Melton seat with Henry George Townsing securing a majority over Ridge. A separate poll prior to June elected James Orgill as councillor for the Rockbank Riding, with Gladstone Orgill receiving the majority. Returning officers Jas N Howell and F C Holden announced the results.
The Melton Shire Council election declares Thomas Hornbuckle elected for the South Riding after a poll shows him the lead with 88 personal votes and 7145 postal, Evan Macdonald 105 personal and 7112 postal, with Malcolm McPherson elected for the North Riding as there were enough candidates. Returning officer J. W. Walter notes the outcome and Hornbuckle thanks voters for leading the poll while Orgill expresses continued commitment to serving the Riding and Shire.

Dated August 23, 191%, Returning Officer D Robertson announces that Philip Purcell’s nomination does not exceed the number of councillors to be elected for the Pentland Hills Riding of the Shire of Bacebus Marsh, declaring him not elected.
