Boxthorn on River Banks Legal Opinion from Shire Solicitors
A 1918 notice from Shire Secretary Le Cooq states the State Rivers and Water Supply Commission bears no obligation to eradicate boxthorn on river banks. It cites Water Act provisions on ownership of beds and banks, noting most banks remain with adjoining landowners and that thistles under water are hard to claim. It suggests unoccupied Crown land status for submerged thistles but may strain the act. Owners are urged to eradicate boxthorn from all river banks promptly.
