Public-spirited citizens Crook and Young recalled
In Bacchus Marsh history two 1860s leaders, James Elijah Crook and James Young, stand out for public service. Both educated and energetic, they championed local progress yet clashed over Presbyterian and Anglican matters. Young died suddenly in March 1871 at about 53 after a career of milling, public roles, irrigation, and schooling efforts.
