Sixty Teachers to Attend Big Convention in Melfort

Arrangements are made for sixty school teachers to visit Melfort for an institute meeting at the school on Friday and Thursday. Normal school principals will conduct sessions on beneficial topics. A public town hall meeting opens the schedule at 8 pm with Rev Lennox Fraser and the Saskatoon Normal School principal as speakers, followed by a dance. An afternoon social at the school on Thursday offers hospitality to visitors and local teachers.

Mortimer Chosen as New Melfort Rector

Word reached All Saints church officials Monday that Bishop Newnham appointed Rev L Mortimer of Prince Albert as Melfort rector. Previously members were split between Mortimer and Rev E P Goulding of Saskatoon, both popular. Parishioners welcome the decision.

Bible Class Reorganized At St James Church

The adult Bible class at St James Presbyterian was reorganized with new officers elected President Myrtle Johnston Secretary Catherine McWatters Treasurer Margaret Gibbon Teacher Mrs Chas Brady Subteacher Myrtle Johnston and committees for social devotional and membership chaired by Mrs McGee Miss McCosh and Oscar Danielson. Monthly business meetings set for the first Tuesday.

Bylaws Passed At Special Council Meeting

A special council meeting last Friday approved several bylaws including amending a bylaw on renting of the Town hall raising telephone rates and authorizing borrowing for school purposes A motion to raise rates previously deemed illegal is noted and a bylaw on removing pests is included. The council granted 2500 dollars to Beury Price for a visitor from Bpeddingto yesterday.

Tenders Called for Telephone Extensions and Police Bill Debate

A long council night debated long distance charges with the chief of police to collect unpaid bills after the 15th. The bylaw aims to assign bill collection to the superintendent of telephones amid cattle bylaw enforcement and a new poundkeeper post. וה

Beatty Football Team to Face Melfort Eleven Tonight

Beatty football team arrives in Melfort this evening for a game with the local eleven. The visitors have strengthened since last week’s match and promise a stiff challenge for the honors, with the Melfort band expected to provide support.

Weyborn, Watrons and Lume den adopt fast time for Saskatchewan towns. Tomorrow at Magis trate Long's court 22 cases on small debts. Merchants warned about butter with over 16 percent moisture. retailer wholesaler and manufacturer share responsibility. Last week a Rewton merchant was fined $10 for butter moisture at 19 percent under the adulteration of foods act.

Unknown Man Killed and Body Hid in the Straw

Coroner and officials in Bagley investigated the charred remains of an unknown man found near a straw stack. Witnesses described a brutal scene, two days of breaking the stack, and evidence suggesting the body was placed there during or after stack construction. Police pursue leads in the mystery closing with no missing persons identified.

Presbyterian Church Notes Sunday Schedule and Events

The church schedules a 11 AM sermon by Rev Lennox Fraser titled The Prince of the World Who is he. A children’s program at 2:20 PM Sunday school and Bible study. The church lists services at 11 am and 7 pm with Sunday School and Bible class at 2:30 pm, midweek service at 8, and choir practice. workers yesterday placed iron braces in the Sladd block to halt brickwork spread. A Uriok fell from a window arch but the site is now in safe condition and foundation work continues.

Local talent vaudeville style play Facing the Music is praised

The Tow hall hosts Facing the Music, a three act farce by local talent under the town band, on May 29 and 30. Married men share a flat while wives are away, leading to comic domestic confusion, with strong performances praised. Town Ball League Plays Off Two Tight Games

Last week in Inagao town the Mer chants beat the Mechanics 17 to 16 in a close contest. On Thursday the Hardwares edged the Binkers 7 to 6 when play ended early due to darkness. Spectators are urged to cheer and not taunt players as games entertain the crowd.
