Edward Gwilliam, a boarding house guest at a Victoria Chinese restaurant, caused a disturbance on New Year night. He admitted guilt after initial denial and liquor intoxication, then was fined $2 plus costs for the incident involving Chin Yok and breaking a bed.
A large volunteers shooting contest at the Melfort armory divided the company into three classes A B and C with 40 entries total. Prizes awarded in each class plus a special championship prize saw Capt. F B Goodwillie distribute awards and offer remarks. Winners included Manro Leake Bailey Cameron and Tressider with scores ranging from 10 to 40 out of 50.
A group of German scouts led by Otto and Gustay Hoeeflicher from Branco Adolph Hamp of Laird and Gus Stefan of Hocloo head toward lands northeast of Melfort seeking suitable sites for a mixed heritage settlement. A 25 member colony is planned for early spring as land becomes available with mild weather. Gustey Stefan just sold a Hoodoo homestead for 4000 dollars and believes better value lies in the new location.
Independents defeated the Bankers 9 2 in last Friday night’s second town hockey league game. Hearn led the Bankers with limited effectiveness while Sid Moore Irwin and Fisher stood out for the Independents. The St Brieux Hotel welcomed over guests to a grand opening in its spacious three story building on Lake Leuvre shore. A Brookway hosted, guests praised the well built naturally equipped and furnished establishment.
Dr Hawke presented a Christmas box to Lady Minto Hospital. The white enamel instrument shaped box was a helpful gift and the staff officers expressed gratitude for the aid and care.

The town reports a full crowd at All Salute church for the Sunday school Christmas tree and supper. A large gathering enjoyed the Christas tree event with free entertainment sponsored by the church. A meeting of all Melfort Agricultural Society members is scheduled for Saturday January 10 at 1 pm in the Town Hall. All interested members are urged to attend as important business will be discussed.

Mrs T A Arnold returns from Moddork visit praising Melfort as the nearest cleanest liveliest town on a 700 mile journey. The fair schedule hints at forward optimism for the village.

Melfort hockey team fell to Tisdale on New Year's Day then won the rematch at the eastern rink. The game started 6 0 at halftime, Melfort scoring four goals to Tisdale's three in the second half. Fisher returned with a broken nose as spectators noted the poorer lighting and rough play.
Amelia Irene Cowell wed George H. McCann of Rosthern at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Cowell on New Year’s Day. The ceremony was at 4 pm officiated by Rev. B. Shields with Miss Clara Cadmore and Emerson Cowell as attendants. The couple left for Rosthern with well wishers in attendance.
