Memorial Service for Pta. Robert McDonald At St James

At St James Presbyterian a memorial service for the late Pta. Robert McDonald filled the church beyond its seating capacity. Rev. C D Campbell led prayers, readings, and hymns, and the sermon, based on Job 14 14, discussed immortality and the resurrection. The pastor cited rational faith and the apostolic witness to Christ rising from the dead as sources of hope for eternal life.

Old Timer Hagstand Dies in Beatty Community

J B Hagstand aged about 42 dies after a two month illness at Beatty eight miles northeast homestead retirement. Survived by wife nine children and parents S Haggland brothers and sisters. Funeral at WNor donsherch conducted by a teen ae on scaiins Wiles Glee to Hoods cemetery. Local notices mention harvest work starting this week and a Red Cross tea event at Nacht's store. Community social events include a hall dance with P Mcine and a September 13 dance inviting soldiers and friends.

Tree crashes into CN R passenger train in storm

A large tree fell across the CN R passenger train during a hurricane wind, breaking the roof of the smoker car. The train was halted for about thirty minutes while the storm abated. No injuries were reported. Mr and Mrs F T Jameson visited Vonda Humboldt and nearby towns last week.
