Big Annual Melfort Fair Promises Record Exhibits

Readiness is complete for Melfort's Big Annual Fair to be held Wednesday and Thursday this week. Directors and Secretary McMillan report record entry numbers and high quality exhibits across livestock, poultry, and prize stock. Harper and Sons bring nineteen Jersey cattle from Westrock Alberta and Manitoba hosts 140 prize birds. The fair opens Wednesday evening if weather permits and Thursday is forecast to set a record day. Mrs S J Greenwood receives news by long distance call from Regina that her son KR C Greenwood is involved.

Methodists Ladies Aid Presents Readings and Gifts

The Melfort Saskatchewan group gathered at Mrs J Claggett's home with thirty four members. Mrs King and Mrs Armstrong received tokens of appreciation for service and hosting. Harvest Leave Granted To Regina Soldiers

Pleasantdale Picnic Realizes Good Sum for the Red Cross

Pleasantdale hosted its first annual picnic at the lake on July 24 drawing crowds from all directions. A horse race won by T. Maben highlighted the afternoon, with races for children and adults and a bean-guessing game won by Mertin of Saskatoon. The event raised funds for the Red Cross, aided by local volunteers including D. Crop, Mrs. T. Graham, and Mrs. Bert Sleere in serving refreshments.

Lake Lenore Council discusses Union Hospital plan

A wartime letter from Pred Sterling recounts the death of Pte. W. Rose in France on 13 7 1918 after a bomb dropped near their shelter. Sterling describes tending Rose then finding him unconscious, his death, and Rose’s grave being kept in good order as a sign of their deep friendship.
