The Royal Templars of Temperance held a Reading Room event Monday with a full house and a varied program. Performers included Mrs Waldock, Mel Martins, Mr Herd, Mr Leonard, Master Joe Leonard, J McLellan, Mrs H J Porter, Miss Maggie Black, Mr Murray, Mrs Geo Bell, and J J Bastings who encore wrapped the show. Net proceeds were about $27 directed toward a fund for temperance work.
Mr. Justice Macleod and Crown Prosecutor Conybeare travelled from Lethbridge for a Tuesday afternoon court session. One case was dealt with, that of Hardy who pleaded guilty to obtaining goods under false pretences and was sentenced to three months in prison.
In LETuBRIDGE on February 20 the jury in Queen versus Purcell found manslaughter. Judge Macleod gave three years in Manitoba penitentiary, saying the sentence was light due to jury recommendation. The article also notes Mr. Wallis praising journalism as a profession and its improvements in society.
