On the eve of Mr. Geo. McCuaig’s departure from Medicine Hat the town hosted a banquet in his honor. Speakers praised his eight years of service as a governor of the Board of Trade, hospital director, and Sunday school leader, while attendees toasted his future. the event featured tributes from colleagues, songs, and reflections on his civic impact.
A reading room concert is set for tonight to benefit the public library. Lethbridge’s maid en town elects Messrs Kavanagh Bently Henderson Coleman Turner and Curry as councillors. Mr Magarth is mayor by acclamation. The first three councillors hail from old Hattites. Conductor George Cunliffe returns from Great Falls Helena and Butte and meets several old Hat boys including Horngan Geo Hall and J P Robinson. Moosomin Liberal Conservative Association holds its annual meeting electing J R Neff M L A president and officers with 60 names added to the society.
Ex mayor Daniel F of Beatty Washington New Jersey has finished a world tour and returns home He promotes his advertisement in this paper and invites readers to request his catalogue and see his celebrated organs and pianos.
Mr Wilson hosted a Saturday lecture in Medicine Hat on a chilly night drawing a slim audience. An amateur speaker, he shared experiences from 33 years circling the globe living in France, Italy, India, China, Japan, Hong Kong, and America. He recounted time as Hong Kong surveyor general and described celestials, Monte Carlo, and Pompeii with vivid word paintings. Rev Dobie chaired and Mr Finlay moved a vote of thanks.
At the last Board of Education meeting arrangements were made for the Entrance Examinations to be held next June and the Teachers Examinations next July. Third Class candidates may take Agriculture and Drawing as optional bonuses and must pass in Algebra and Geometry. Second Class candidates may also take Drawing and Agriculture as optional bonuses. First Class candidates must pass in one language, Latin or French, with Agriculture and Drawing as optional bonuses.
Government approves a plan to set up dairy schools across the Dominion this year under Dominion Dairy Commissioner Prof Robertson. Funds are allocated to establish these schools in leading provinces with aims including promoting winter dairying through example and commercial success.
Over fifty scholars and teachers met at the manse on Friday evening to bid farewell to Mr. McCuaig the superintendent since the school's organization on July 6 1880. The event was enjoyable with refreshments served and the gathering adjourned near 10 30.
Public meeting of library and reading room subscribers to elect a committee for the year and review receipts and expenditure. The meeting will be held in the building on Friday evening, commencing at 20 o'clock.
